Inspiration Wednesday

23 days until I go back to school!

Not much has been going on here. Just a lot of crafting!!! Tis the season to make stockings, ornaments, and polar bear vests. Oh my! Kinda sad that this season of Glee is already on its finale *sniff sniff*. Can't wait for it to come back!

Inspiration time!

I found this on Seattle Pacific's website and after looking at what was going on I can't help but write about it. SPU is sending a team of students to Camden, NJ to work with UrbanPromise (http://www.urbanpromiseusa.org). This organization resonates a lot with what I believe. They have multiple projects in other cities but it all started in Camden, where poverty truly hinders the kids in the city. It has become UrbanPromise's mission to uplift the children's lives by providing safer community to grow up in. They offer tutoring, mentoring, coaching, job training, and college prep. These are things that many families take advantage of but for those living on pennies, especially in dangerous cities, oftentimes can't even provide the time to show their kids the easiest of life skills because they're too busy working.

All we need are more people in the world to believe in others. Many times people look down on those who are poor, or even those who don't have the newest gadget on the market. But it's often those people who have the most potential to truly do great things with their lives. Maybe Camden is too far away for some of you to care but what about that teen walking down the street in the rain with no coat? Maybe he could use a little guidance, someone to believe in him and encourage him to reach for the stars. What about the third grader who always comes to school and leaves school hungry because her parents can't afford to feed her except once a day? Perhaps donating to a lunch fund through the school for her would help her focus on her studies instead of on her tummy. Small actions have big effects. Sometimes just saying hi and that you're thinking about them can make a person push for greatness because of that one kind act :-)
