Bah! You'd think that with it being our own lives we'd be able to keep track of things better. Alas, whoever believes that is a fool!
Our move dates and everything have changed but this time they're "official" because JT got his offer from Savannah and is officially hired now. His last day at work is now the 20th, although it could be sooner depending on work stuff. His first day at work is now the 25th. Which still gives us only four days to get out there. It takes exactly 48 hours, according to Google maps, to get from here to there. And that's not including traffic and the fact that half the states we're going through seem to be on fire at the moment. He was told that they could push the start date back if we can't get there in time but I'd rather JT get a few days off work here to give us time than start his new position later than agreed upon. Bah! So confusing.
There's very good news in all this though. JT is going to salary again, which is a huge commitment because there are no set hours. With us going to a new city, this worried me at first. When he worked salary here he was working ALL the time and his pay didn't really reflect his hard work or lack of family time. But I knew Corvallis and I have friends here so I could at least find entertainment and ways to push away loneliness. However, Savannah apparently believes that hard work and previous experience deserves better pay. They're giving him a 17 PERCENT increase of salary!! That comes out to be plenty of money to no longer worry about whether we'll be able to afford our new rent and the fact that we'll have sales tax. And trust me, we were SCARED we weren't going to be able to afford rent!
Don't get me wrong. I'm still kinda nervous about him working all hours of the day when we're in a new city. I may have my permit but without the car and JT it's not like I can go anywhere. I'm not taking the bus by myself the very first time! Have you seen the bus lines out there? They're insane! Thank God for bicycles and us already having them! Hoping hardcore that we'll find a church we really like quickly so we can plug in with some people, get to know where we're at better, and hopefully find some (super) cheap ways to have fun. We both are really wanting to learn how to go crabbing, I want to surf, JT wants to fish again (although he's definitely not going to be flyfishing anytime soon with those gator-infested swamps!), we both want to tour the city and the places around us...that's plenty of things we want to do that Savannahians can work with, right? The normal stuff like game nights, movies, and (cheap) restaurant exploring still apply, of course.
Man, this all feels super real now. As JT put it, we're no longer planning this move anymore. We're actually DOING it. We're moving, crosscountry, in two weeks. The next time we buy groceries it'll be at the Piggly Wiggly. (BTW MIL, I don't know if I told you on the phone or not, but we have a Piggly Wiggly right around the block from our place.) The next time we go on a day trip it won't be to Portland. It'll be to Charleston. Or Atlanta or Orlando, but those would be much longer day trips...more like weekend trips. Particularly Orlando. There's magical things there ;-) The next time we buy clothes it'll be at the Savannah Mall and it won't be sweatshirts and jeans. Okay, it might be jeans. But we'd mainly be buying shorts or t-shirts or skirts. And work clothes. Though not suits. JT actually has a summer wardrobe for work which is much different than his winter one. You wanna hear it? In the summer he has to wear...what he's wearing now. As opposed to in the winter, when they have to wear blazers. Why? Because it's too hot for them to look super professional, so they get to be "semi" professional in the summer. How crazy is that? They're semi-professional is Oregon's version of professional for JT's field.
Crazy. Insane. Bonkers. But wow, what an adventure we're on!
